The newly released Ericsson Mobility Report highlights the continued growth across the mobile industry from around the world. Among the noteworthy findings, the report explains that mobile data traffic grew 65% over the past year largely due to increased data usage by smartphone owners. The study cites there are now 365 million mobile subscriptions in North America alone and that during the first quarter of this year, 65% percent of all mobile phones sold globally were smartphones. By 2019, the report projects there will be around 9.2 billion mobile subscriptions and that 5.6 billion will be smartphones. Additionally, the report finds that LTE will represent over half of the mobile subscriptions in North America by 2015, and over 80% by 2019.
