FaceTime Brings Policymakers Face to Face with Spectrum Crunch

FaceTime is great at bringing us face to face with friends and family, but it may also soon bring policymakers face to face with the spectrum crunch.  As today’s WSJ points out, while Apple’s recent decision to enable FaceTime over 3G will be awesome for consumers, it could also be a wakeup call for policymakers.  The Journal indicates it will enable millions of devices to eat six megabytes a minute — that’s adding a huge number of bytes (not nibbles) to the looming spectrum crunch.  So rather than calling on policymakers to make more spectrum available, lets FaceTime them and thank them for facing up to our ever accelerating spectrum challenges.
