Late Thursday, the FCC released its assessment of competition in the wireless marketplace. Mobile Future Chairman Jonathan Spalter responded to the report, stating:
“The U.S. wireless market is the most fiercely competitive, healthy, and perpetually innovative in the world. With more mobile devices in the U.S. than people, the exploding consumer demand for mobile broadband is driving wireless competition and creating a wealth of consumer choices in carriers, devices, and service offerings. The bipartisan, light-touch approach of the past two decades, coupled with current efforts to identify additional spectrum for high-speed commercial broadband use, will continue to promote the investment, innovation and competition that has helped foster the world’s largest 4G customer base and most varied and innovative applications and device markets. In fact, at least nine wireless carriers currently are working aggressively to roll out this next-generation mobile infrastructure to meet the growing needs of their customers for everywhere/anytime high-speed connectivity. The facts and data clearly show that competition and innovation are thriving in all segments of the wireless ecosystem, providing significant benefits for our economy, employment and consumers alike. It is impossible to deny the stark reality that this market is anything short of fully competitive.”
