Global Connectivity Growing at Unprecedented Rate

Yesterday, Cisco released its annual VNI Forecast analyzing global IP network growth and the findings point to the unprecedented rate the internet- and all the devices that rely on it- is expanding.

A few of the key stats include:

  • The United States will generate the highest traffic by 2016
  • 45% of the world’s projected population will use the Internet in 2016
  • In 2016, 1.2 million minutes of video will cross the network every second

 

Additionally, as the press release stated:

“The proliferation of tablets, mobile phones, and other smart devices as well as machine-to-machine (M2M) connections are driving up the demand for connectivity. By 2016, the forecast projects there will be nearly 18.9 billion network connections―almost 2.5 connections for each person on earth, ― compared with 10.3 billion in 2011.”
