Government Proposal Will Free 1755-1780 MHz Band for Commercial Mobile Services

This week, the Department of Defense released a proposal to make the 1755-1780 MHz band of spectrum available in the near-term so it can be reallocated for commercial wireless services.  This step is great progress toward meeting President Obama’s goal of repurposing 500 MHz of spectrum over the next several years.

The Pentagon’s proposal will ensure critical DoD capabilities are not interrupted while this preferred band of spectrum is transitioned.  As all stakeholders continue to engage in this process, the mobile future remains bright for hundreds of millions of U.S. wireless users who depend on spectrum for everyday connectivity.
