Going to the slopes this winter? Don’t forget your smartphone. As a recent issue of Fortune put it, “The hills are alive with smartphone apps and social media.” If you’re off to Vail, you get a lift ticket that’s equipped with a chip that tracks your runs and locates family and friends.
But even if your budget won’t allow Vail, there are new apps that will let you track your runs and enjoy the slopes more than ever. One app called RealSki overlays trail map markers, lift areas, and lodges when you hold your phone’s camera in front of you. Move it in any direction and the markers move too.
Now the bad news: Reservations appear to be running ahead of last year’s pace so scoring a good deal on a lift ticket may take some effort.
