A new report by GSMA Intelligence, released ahead of Mobile World Congress next week, forecasts machine-to-machine (M2M) connections by mobile carriers will reach 250 million globally by year’s end, an increase from the 195 million M2M connections last year. The growth is driven by connected cars and devices such as smart watches and smart thermostats. According to the report, there are 428 mobile operators in 187 countries offering M2M services, covering about 40% of the world. Additionally, the report finds North America leads in M2M connections on a regional basis, accounting for one in ten of all mobile connections.
