A new app, developed in part by Sean Parker of Napster and Facebook fame, is attempting to consolidate social networks and the arena of civic engagement. Brigade allows users to ask poll-like questions, take sides on political issues, defend opinions, and convert opponents into believers. The goal of the app is to use social networking to create public forums that help individuals educate themselves and others on social and political issues. Brigade then connects supporters of similar opinions. Although Brigade users might not be running for president, they can certainly help shape the debate.
