A recent poll, highlighted in a Hypebot.com article, shows that almost a third of 18-34 year-olds use smartphones at live events for half of the event or longer. Music festivals are responding to this uptick in usage, offering apps to help navigate through the fun and charging stations to keep fans online. Millennials are a key demographic when it comes to mobile connectivity and 66% of that age group say that they would be interested in using a smartphone as a payment device. That’s big news, since according to Time Magazine, millennials in America have a purchasing power of $170 billion. Venues are considering ways to tap into this purchasing power, such as including drink coupons and VIP access offers through smartphone apps and services. So staying connected at live events may soon offer rewards and discounts – all from the palm of your hand.
