Narrowing the Digital Divide in the African American Community

New data from Pew’s recent report “African Americans and Technology Use” finds African Americans are equally as likely to own a smartphone as whites. Of the study’s respondents, 56% of African American said they own a smartphone compared with 53% of whites. The findings also highlight African Americans leading whites in Twitter use with 22% of African American internet users on the social platform compared with 16% of white internet users. Additionally, 92% of African Americans own a cell phone according to the study.
