Mobile Future Statement – House Permanent Extension of the Internet Tax Freedom Act

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to permanently extend a law that bans state and local taxes on Internet access.

The following statement should be attributed to Jonathan Spalter, Chair of Mobile Future:

“Wireless broadband is powering Internet commerce for millions of American consumers and businesses, and with the explosion of leading-edge mobile platforms, users appropriately expect a reasonable and permanent tax process for Internet access. The passage of a permanent extension of the moratorium on taxing Internet access by the House sends a clear message about the significant role the digital economy plays in fueling the U.S. innovation economy. With wireless users already paying far more than their fair share in taxes, we urge the Senate to help bring certainty to consumers by passing legislation that keeps access to the Internet free from discriminatory and unfair taxes.”
