Mobile Future Statement on FCC’s 911 Location Accuracy Rules

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Federal Communications Commission approved a Report and Order to ensure that accurate caller location information is automatically provided to public safety officials for all wireless calls to 911, including for indoor calls, to meet consumer and public safety needs and expectations, and to take advantage of new technological developments.

The following statement should be attributed to Jonathan Spalter, chair of Mobile Future:

“The Commission’s new rules for 911 indoor location accuracy standards will help assist first responders by ensuring they are better able to locate wireless users in emergency situations, particularly in urban areas. By embracing these strong milestones and encouraging constructive collaboration between the public safety community and the wireless sector, the Commission’s new rules reinforce a shared commitment to improving location accuracy to ensure the most efficient dispatch of first responders in cases of emergency.”
