WASHINGTON, D.C. – AT&T today announced it will invest $14 Billion to expand the reach of its U-Verse wired high-speed broadband service and its “4G LTE” wireless broadband network beyond previous plans.
The following statement should be attributed to Jonathan Spalter, chairman of Mobile Future:
AT&T’s announcement is great news for mobile innovators, investors, entrepreneurs and – most importantly – the nation’s more than 300 million wireless subscribers. This investment in broadband infrastructure is critical to ensuring a seamless transition to next generation communications networks and technologies. It is also critical to help bring the mobile Internet to consumers in rural America as well as communities of color who increasingly rely on wireless as their sole on-ramp to the Internet. Industry investments like this are vital to our economy and maintaining our nation’s global leadership in mobile technology. In the past four years, the wireless industry has invested roughly $94 billion in U.S. mobile networks, more than any other sector, and we are encouraged to see with today’s announcement, even more investment in the years ahead.”
