Ericsson’s recently released Mobility Report points to the continued adoption and ever-increasing use of wireless around the world. The report highlights how prevalent smartphones have become in consumers lives and the data shows that this year, global mobile broadband subscriptions will exceed 2 billion and that in 2019 almost all mobile devices will be smartphones in North America.
Among the noteworthy findings was that data traffic from smartphones is projected to grow 10x over the next 6 years, largely due to consumers streaming video on their devices, and that data traffic generated by mobile phones will exceed data traffic generated by PCs, tablets and routers this year.
Additionally, the report finds that by 2016 the majority of mobile subscriptions in North America will be LTE and that LTE subscriptions will increase to 85% in 2019.
