Votes Are In: The Mobileys Winners Announced

Today Mobile Future announced the winners of its third annual mobile innovation competition, The Mobileys. The national competition recognizes early stage wireless apps, services and products that make the world a better place. After being judged by a talented panel, our search for the next big thing in mobile officially has come to a close. This year, the well-deserving top three meet some of the most pressing challenges of our time through mobile innovation.

Here are our winners:

An estimated 43 children diagnosed with cancer each day. Our 1st place winner, CureSearch Cancer Care, helps family members and caregivers better help their loved one that is fighting cancer. When dealing with a child’s cancer diagnosis, there is a lot to manage and this one-stop app makes it easier on parents and caregivers.  The app gives you easy access to organize treatment dates, medication schedules, view reports, and most importantly—confidentially share all of this crucial information with other loved ones. With more than 40,000 children undergoing cancer treatment in a single year, this app changes the lives of many in a remarkable way.

Our second place winner, SPROKIT (Successful Prisoner Re-Entry — Opportunity & Knowledge Interactive Tool) is an amazing app that connects helps returning citizens from the prison system improve their lives. In the United States, more than 650,000 prisoners re-enter society each year and many, unfortunately, have a hard time, resulting in high recidivism rates. Studies show that within five years of release, over 75% of released prisoners in the U.S. are rearrested. This app connects, educates, and drives positive behavior by giving customized guidance, helpful notifications, and 24/7 support from social service organizations, health providers, and case workers.

Our third place winner, Pro:Up is a mobile app that helps students connect with meaningful  extracurricular experiences that have the potential to change their lives. Educators created this app with the knowledge that a single experience can change a student’s life. The app matches students to educational and career development opportunities like extra classes, internships, jobs, and summer programs.

The Mobileys competition awards also include a People’s Choice Award in which the winner is chosen through online voting. This year’s winner is Food Share. This app, only available in St. Louis for now, allows users to donate a meal to someone in need every time they choose to dine at a partnered restaurant. Users can also refer their friends to the restaurant and share their experience to Facebook for an additional donated meal. What a great way to give back this holiday season!

All four winners are invited to Washington, D.C. later this year to receive their awards and have the opportunity to share their innovations and ideas with key policymakers. To read more about the great entrepreneurs and their game-changing mobile innovations, click here!
