Presiding over her first meeting at the helm of the Commission, FCC Chair Clyburn announced that the auction presentation given at today’s monthly meeting is the first in a series of expected updates from the Incentive Auction Task Force.
Today, the Task Force reiterated their public interest goals of alleviating spectrum deficit concerns, providing for a healthy broadcast industry, meeting statutory financial objectives, and promoting innovation in our fast-growing mobile market. Next steps for the group include continuing to develop the broadcast repacking process, advancing international coordination efforts, and encouraging channel sharing.
As all the commissioners noted, this is a long and complex process, but the benefits are immense. A successful incentive auction is necessary and critical for American consumers who increasingly rely on mobile connectivity.
