Each November, we honor the men and women who have served in our armed forces. Here are a few great apps doing their part to help and thank veterans and their families:
Jobs for Heroes: This free app works to employ veterans upon their return from service. Employers looking to hire vets can post on this app. Veterans with the app can search all public postings made with filters like keywords, locations and posting date.
311VET: File for benefits easily and receive answers 24/7 form your mobile device. With 311VET, Veteran Affairs (VA) facilities can be found with the click of a button.
Virtual Hope Box: This app was developed by the National Center for Telehealth and Technology in order to provide veterans with access to personal coping methods. Different categories on the phone like cope, inspire, distract or relax are available for use at any moment, including a list of key contacts for outreach. Behavioral health providers can personalize the app for patient needs, helping regulate emotions and relaying positive messages, quotes, and pictures.
Military and Veterans Discount Center: Saving veterans time and money, this app is one large collection of veteran discounts. Search locally for up to date information about where veterans are appreciated with special savings! This upcoming veteran’s day, you can even filter your search result for veteran day specific discounts and things to do
In addition, popular ride sharing apps, Uber and Lyft have just announced that they will join forces with the White House and donate free rides to veterans needing a ride to work and interviews. Also keep an eye out for the new Uber feature to donate money to Veterans in need coming soon!
