House Democrats Send Letter on Spectrum Auctions to FCC Chair

Yesterday, several House Energy & Commerce Committee Democrats sent a letter to Acting FCC Chair Clyburn expressing their concern about the rules governing the upcoming spectrum incentive auctions, and whether such rules will ensure a successful reallocation of broadcast spectrum for commercial services and the funding of the nationwide interoperable public safety network, known as FirstNet.

In order for the spectrum auctions to meet these goals, the representatives advised that the FCC not restrict any wireless carriers’ participation in the auction. The Congressmen concluded by asking the FCC to “adopt transparent and simple rules to encourage participation by the broadest group of broadcasters and wireless providers because doing so will contribute in great part to a successful auction that, in turn, will generate the revenues needed to fulfill our shared commitment to public safety and achieve the other goals of the act.”
