Economic Impact

The wireless ecosystem helps drive the American economy and enhance our global competitiveness.

  • Why We Care

Every year, the U.S. wireless industry generates billions of dollars in economic impact.  It’s not just the wireless companies that are benefiting from this economic growth; every wireless industry job results in another 6 people finding employment. U.S. leadership in 4G technology allowed American firms to capitalize on the impact of mobile; U.S. companies run the operating systems on 9 out of 10 smartphones worldwide. The deployment of 5G will lead to cascading effects across the economy and create new markets such as the Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities, and wearable technology. For example, the number of IoT devices worldwide will be greater than 20 billion by the year 2020, adding approximately $2.7 trillion to U.S. GDP by 2030.
