(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, House Energy and Commerce Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) unveiled the Jumpstarting Opportunity with Broadband Spectrum (JOBS) Act of 2011 authorizing the Federal Communications Commission to conduct voluntary spectrum incentive auctions.
The following statement should be attributed to Jonathan Spalter, chairman of Mobile Future:
“The movement in the House regarding spectrum auctions is a welcome step forward, and comes not a moment too soon. Even if legislation were enacted today, it will still take at least seven years to bring new spectrum online for mobile consumers. Alarmingly, however, the FCC estimates demand will exceed existing capacity by 2013. The nation — and our innovation economy — can not afford more delays. We appreciate Chairman Walden’s leadership and strongly encourage Congress to enact spectrum legislation as quickly as possible.”
